Sugaring

Sugaring is a gentle, effective and eco-friendly hair removal method, which at the same time exfoliates the skin while making it silky smooth and hair-free up to 3-6 weeks.

With sugaring, body hair can be removed from almost all areas of the body and on all types of skin.

Sugaring is much more than hair removal. Sugaring removes dead cells from the skin and the skin becomes brighter and healthier looking. Thanks to the gentle exfoliation in-grown hairs are also less likely to occur.

Your pre- and post care checklist for sugaring:

- Make sure the hairs are long enough, about 0,5 cm.

- Do not exfoliate less than 48 h before the treatment.

- Avoid sun exposure, saunas, sweating and chlorine for 48 h after your appointment.

- Wait 72 h before exfoliating after the treatment.

How does sugaring feel?

The thickness and density of the hairs has a lot to do with how sugaring feels. Finer and sparser hair comes off easily, while the removal of denser and thicker hair typically can feel more intense.

However, sugaring is significantly easier the next times, when sugaring is done regularly. In this case, there are fewer hairs growing back and the hairs are softer meaning they also come off more easily.

A suitable hair length is about 0.5 cm. We recommend trimming longer hairs with scissors at home before your appointment.

If the hairs are too short the sugaring paste cannot grab onto the hairs meaning that the treatment will be unsuccessful.

Preparation for sugaring

When you come to your sugaring appointment for the first time, it would be ideal for the hairs to be 0.5-1 cm long. There should be 10-14 days from the last time you shaved.

Your sugaring specialist cleans your skin before sugaring, so you don't need to prepare for sugaring in any way (other than growing the hair). It is not recommended to exfoliate the skin the days before your appointment and it is not recommended to use oily / greasy products in the treated area right before coming to the treatment, as it can make it more difficult for the sugaring paste to stick to the hairs.

Reduction / weakening of body hair with the help of sugaring

With sugaring, the hairs becomes softer and thinner over time.

Regular sugaring often impacts the hair follicle which can lead to more permanent hairlessness. The suitable sugaring interval at the beginning is usually 3-5 weeks, the need for sugaring depends on your own individual hair growth.

When you have sugaring regularly, you and your sugaring specialist will find a sugaring rhythm that suits you.

The first times of sugaring can feel more intense especially around the bikini/Brazilian area. This completely depends on your own pain tolerance, but with regular sugaring the hairs become softer and the unpleasant sensation will also decrease.

Sugaring vs. waxing

The advantages of sugaring is its naturalness, eco-friendliness and its skin sensitivity. Sugaring fits all skin types and the sugaring paste is completely natural and free from all chemicals that wax contain. Sugaring paste is simply made of just two ingredients: organic sugar and water.

The sugaring paste is also completely bio-degradable meaning it’s environment friendly too. Do we also need to add that it’s vegan, toxic-free, cruelty-free, pregnancy safe and so much more?

Sugaring paste also adheres better to fine and shorter hair than waxing, which is why it is also excellent for sugaring of the facial area. You will see such a difference with applying your make up foundation on after having facial sugaring.

How often should sugaring be done?

This depends on your hair growth and growth cycle. At the beginning, it may be that you need to be sugared a little more often, but the growth of the hair starts to slow down with regular sugaring and the treatment interval then becomes longer. Usually a good interval is 3-5 weeks, at least at the beginning. The sugaring specialist will recommend a suitable interval for you when you come for treatment.

Does sugaring hurt?

Sugaring rarely hurts, but it may feel like a bit of a pinch. Brazilian sugaring may sometimes feel uncomfortable if you are on your period or pregnant, in which case hormonal activity sensitizes your skin's sense of touch.

Can I have intimate sugaring done when I’m on my period?

Yes, you can! It is however required that you wear a tampon or a menstrual cup during the treatment. It’s also good to keep in mind that your skin might feel more sensitive to pain than normally due to increased hormone levels.

I have atopic dermatitis, can I come for sugar treatment?

If there is atopic skin in the treated area and the skin is not broken down to the blood vessels, sugaring can be done over the atopic dermatitis. It gently exfoliates the surface of the skin and may even be good for eczema. If the skin is broken in the area to be treated, sugaring can irritate it more, meaning sugaring will not take place and instead we exclude that specific area.

What if I have an allergic reaction?

A reaction is very rare if the pre- and post care instructions are followed. But if you do experience redness along with swelling apply a cold compress or anti-histamine cream to reduce the effects. If you break out in red bumps after your sugaring appointment, it’s called a histamine reaction. Taking an anti-histamine will resolve this but let your sugaring specialist know and we advise you to contact a doctor if the symptoms continue the next day. A reaction is far more likely if the pre- and post care instructions are not followed.
